Mo-Sen: The primary is heating up – Sarah Palin has endorsed, and there’s a bit of drama

Former Vice Presidential Candidate and Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin has endorsed a candidate in Missouri’s GOP primary for U.S. Senate.

Ya don’t say?

Retired bomber pilot Tony Monetti has earned the nod from Palin, who will campaign for him in Kansas City on June 27. A public rally will be held along with a VIP fundraiser, which Monetti says is “a game changer” for his campaign.

Monetti told TheBlaze, “So many [of our supporters] want signs, and we can’t afford to make them fast enough.” He said, “I had one supporter say, ‘I don’t have a lot of money, but I’ll paint signs and put them in my neighbors’ yards.”

But Palin’s endorsement is expected to breathe extra life into Monetti’s campaign.

How did that happen?

Tony’s wife, Penny, has always loved Sarah Palin. So after Palin posted on her website that Tony’s announcement release was the “best campaign video of all time,” an introduction was in order.

Penny flew to meet with Palin and told her about Tony’s initiatives.

In the campaign video, Monetti says, “I don’t know about you, but I’m just sick and tired of what’s going on in D.C.,” all while he’s flying (mostly upside-down) in a single engine Extra 300.

“I’m willing to do it, but I need your help,” Monetti tells his audience in the video. He told TheBlaze, “We’re moving hearts and minds, but we need more money.”

I have to report this:

Monetti’s campaign manager, Jonica Hope, was arrested last week for allegations of falsifying a sworn statement. Hope evidently admitted to a charge of fraudulent use of a credit device a few years ago, and failed to report it when she was signing up to run for the Christian County Republican Committee.

Under advisement by her attorneys, Hope was not able to speak about the situation. But Monetti told TheBlaze in laughter, “We are the basket of deplorables, after all. We’re a ragtag team but we’re all heart and we’re going to win.”

Harvey Weinstein Indicted on Rape, Criminal Sex Act Charges

(From AP News)

Harvey Weinstein was indicted on rape and criminal sex act charges, furthering the first criminal case to arise from a slate of sexual misconduct allegations against the former movie mogul.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said Wednesday’s indictment brings Weinstein “another step closer to accountability” for alleged attacks on two women in New York.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said he would “vigorously defend” against the indictment and ask a court to dismiss it. He called the allegations “unsupported” and reiterated that Weinstein strongly denies them.

Weinstein, 66, learned of the specific charges and the accusers’ identities only after turning himself in Friday, according to his lawyers. Brafman said that with a deadline set for Wednesday afternoon for Weinstein to testify or not, prosecutors denied his request for more time.

Scott Pruitt’s desk is more impressive than yours

Allegations of misconduct during Scott Pruitt’s tenure as head of the Environmental Protection Agency share a common theme: ambitious displays of power and authority. Breaking: A big development in the case against Harvey Weinstein

Harvey Weinsten, the disgraced Hollywood movie mogul, has been indicted on criminal sex and rape charges according to a statement from the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Here’s what happened

Weinstein was arrested Friday on first and third-degree rape charges stemming from accusations by two women, one identified as a former acting student. He was released on $1 million bail, but ordered to wear an ankle bracelet.

“This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged,” said district attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. on Wednesday.

“Our office will try this case not in the press, but in the courtroom where it belongs,” he added. “The defendant’s recent assault on the integrity of the survivors and the legal process is predictable. We are confident that when the jury hears the evidence, it will reject these attacks out of hand.”

Earlier during the hearing, Weinstein’s attorney indicated that he would not be testifying on his behalf in front of the grand jury. Weinsten has denied the charges against him.

Weinstein’s defense

Weinstein’s defense attorney Ben Brafman told reporters Tuesday that one of the accusers had a longtime relationship with the movie producer, in an attempt to cast doubt on the allegations.

“This is an extraordinary case in my judgement where the only rape victim that Mr. Weinstein is accused of raping is someone with whom he has had a 10-year consensual sexual relationship,” Brafman said, “both before and after the alleged incident.”

Brafman came under fire for his previous statement in defense of his client, when he said that Weinstein “did not invent the casting couch in Hollywood.”

The beginning of the “Me Too” movement

The “open secret” of Weinstein’s abuses spurred the “Me Too” movement when it was finally documented and revealed numerous accusations from his alleged victims. The culture of silence that helped him allegedly continue to wield his power to pressure and abuse women was unveiled in the entertainment industry, and encouraged other victims to reveal their abuse in other parts of society.

Some have claimed that the movement has gone too far and has caused false or exaggerated accusations to be made against men who were unfairly harmed in a courtroom of unaccountable public opinion.

Here’s a local news story on the indictment:

Zimbabwe investigates bribe allegations after hunter indicted in U.S.

Zimbabwe’s wildlife agency said on Tuesday it was investigating allegations that a South African national bribed officials to allow a Colorado-based tourist to take the ivory tusks of an elephant illegally shot in a Zimbabwe game park. Their inquiry comes after U.S. prosecutors accused the South African, who was with a hunting party in Gonarezhou National Park in southern Zimbabwe, of paying up to $8,000 in bribes to Zimbabwean government officials to kill the elephant inside the park and to have the animal’s ivory released.
