Saudi Arabia on Monday called the attempted missile attack on Riyadh’s main airport this weekend an “act of war” by Iran and vowed to retaliate.
Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been fighting Saudi-backed forces there for several years, claimed responsibility for firing the ballistic missile on Saturday. The missile traveled more than 500 miles before Saudi Arabia intercepted it.
The official Saudi Press Agency charged that debris from the missile proved that it was made in Iran and smuggled into Yemen. American officials have previously charged that Iran has armed the Houthi rebels.
This one is complex. The Saudi king is dying. In 2015 King Salman change the line of succession to favor his sons instead of the standard method. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, one of the top men in line of succession, was arrested recently for ‘corruption.’ Add to it man of the leaders of the Houthi rebels also have princely bloodlines. Saudi Arabia has been the only stabilizing influence in the region. If it falls apart from infighting Iran can directly influence it’s powers on surrounding territories. If that happens Iran can put their own Iran friendly prince into power. That would completely change the dynamic of oil prices and the spread of radicals European and Asian countries.
