“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed,” actor said at premiere of “Fences”
After “Fences” star Denzel Washington found himself at the center of a fake news story earlier this year, the actor blasted the media for selling “B.S.”
“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed,” Washington said at the Wednesday premiere of “Fences” inside the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., according to The Hill.
“In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there,” Washington added. “We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true.”
During a press conference for his upcoming movie Wednesday, Denzel Washington fired back at the mainstream media for ignoring their responsibility to be truthful.
Washington himself was the subject of a bogus news story earlier this year when an outlet falsely claimed that he had decided to switch his support from Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to Republican Donald Trump. And even though the subject of “fake news outlets” has drawn much attention and criticism from national media outlets, his harsh words were directed toward none other than the mainstream media.
“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed,” Washington began. He elaborated that he believes one of the effects of “too much information” is “the need to be first, not even to be true anymore.”
