Pardons Uproar Shows Left Knows Little History

Since the birth of the nation presidents have used their constitutionally-granted power to issue pardons to Americans convicted of federal crimes. George Washington began the long list of presidential pardons when he granted two citizens convicted of treason in the Whiskey Rebellion, largely played out here in the commonwealth; in Western Pennsylvania.

50 years after RFK’s death, legacy endures

For 12 weeks he traveled the country, up and down the coasts, to Indiana the day Martin Luther King Jr. was killed; to Nebraska, where he won a vital primary in a devoutly conservative state; to Oregon, where he suffered the first political loss by any member of his family; and then to California, where he vowed to go on to the Democratic convention “and let’s win there,” only to walk through a hotel kitchen where it all – the campaign against a long war, the campaign for a new sense of national purpose – tumbled to an end with an outstretched arm and spray of gunfire.

Community News For The Enfield Edition

A free concert by the Savage Brothers, one of the region’s premiere bands for three decades, will be among the highlights of this year’s edition of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish’s carnival, to be held Thursday, May 31; Friday, June 1; and Saturday, June 2, on the St. Bernard Church grounds at 424 Hazard Ave. The carnival will run from 6 to 10 p.m. each day, featuring carnival rides with wrist bands for sale every evening for $20 that provide unlimited access to the fairground’s rides, or individual ride tickets. There will be a wide variety of food, including fried dough, French fries, doughnuts, strawberry shortcakes and sundaes; craft beer provided by Powder Hollow Brewery; and hamburgers, hot dogs, and grinders prepared by Danny’s Pizza.

Merle Dandridge to Return to Once on this Island for Limited Engagement

The producers of Broadway’s Once On This Island announced today that Merle Dandridge will return to the Tony Nominated production for a limited time from June 18 – August 19. Current cast member Tamyra Gray will return as Papa Ge on August 20. “Reviving Once On This Island was one of the most creatively and emotionally rewarding experiences of my life,” remarked Merle Dandridge. “It was bittersweet to leave this beautiful Island family after our rigorous rehearsal and preview process and only six weeks into the run to return to a wonderful season 3 of “Greenleaf” on OWN.
