Jenna Bush Hager Misses Her Grandmother. Has A Breakdown When She Sees Her 10th Anniversary Gift

Jenna Bush married Henry Chase Hager after meeting each other during her father, George W. Bush’s 2004 presidential run. They were officially husband and wife almost exactly 10 years ago, and her husband decided to do something special for the big anniversary. Some husbands can even forget their anniversary but not Henry! He chose to honor her late grandmother, former First Lady Barbara Bush, with his gift.

Henry gave her a beautiful album of photos of Barbara and her husband George H.W. Bush at their wedding. It was an emotional gift but one that Jenna will treasure for the rest of her days.

“The best anniversary gift from my husband: pictures from 10 years ago of my grandparents at our wedding,” she recently shared, along with one of the photos. “A reminder: Life is precious and goes by too fast.”

Barbara Bush’s passing rocked the family, as she was an essential link holding them all together. She was 92 years old and passed away at home in Houston.

The funeral took place on April 21 and their family and close friends all came together to remember such a beautiful life. The Washington Post shared a story in her honor about how tough Barbara Bush truly was.

Barbara was forced to face death as a young mother when her daughter Robin was diagnosed with Leukemia. Once someone close to you gets diagnosed with an illness like that, death is something that you are forced to consider.

The doctor only gave them one prescription – to make life as comfortable for her as they could. They had no hope that Robin would recover due to how advanced the disease was.

Robin tragically passed after her battle with Leukemia in 1953 and the family began a long grieving process. When a child gets sick and dies, it often makes people question the world and their place in it.

Barbara had toughed out many hospital stays in the last few years, but she decided to stop medical treatments prior to her death. It was difficult for the family but they knew they needed to respect her decision.

Jenna simply broke down when she saw the gift and let out all of the emotions that had been running through her. Her grandfather, George H.W. Bush is now in the hospital for a second time in recent weeks as well. She is dealing with a lot right now and her husband is standing behind her every step of the way.

“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood,” Spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement. “He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant.”

“You and Gampy embodied unconditional love,” Jenna said in a speech at Barbara’s funeral. “I will pass your love letters down to my children, so they know what true devotion looks like.”

Jenna is still worried about her grandfather, who is understandably distraught and heartbroken after the death of his wife of 73 years.

Keep George H.W., and the whole Bush family in your thoughts today.
